Learn From an Experienced GCSE Photography Teacher
I’m Laura Crawford, an Art and Photography teacher with 17 years of classroom teaching experience, specialising in helping students develop their creativity, confidence and understanding of GCSE Photography.
Throughout my teaching career, my students have consistently achieved strong results and excellent progress, including students developing from uncertain starting points into confident photographers producing sophisticated, highly developed portfolios.
Alongside this I have had additional training during my time spent working for one of the exam boards as a moderator, giving me valuable insight into the marking process.
Many years ago, I created my website Photography with Miss Wilson to share high-quality Photography teaching resources beyond my own classroom. The website has grown into an extensive collection of GCSE Photography ideas, artist inspiration, project guidance and practical resources used by students and teachers around the world.
I’m also the author of How to Excel in GCSE Photography, created specifically to help students understand how to improve their work and approach the course successfully.
My wider How to Excel series draws on the same principles I have used throughout my teaching career: helping students understand why successful creative work is successful rather than simply telling them what to produce.
This Masterclass brings all of this experience together into one focused resource, showing students how to approach GCSE Photography with greater understanding, independence and ambition.

What You’ll Learn in the GCSE Photography Masterclass
The Masterclass focuses on helping students understand the GCSE Photography course, recognise what high-quality work looks like and make more informed decisions about their own portfolio.
Students will learn how to:
- Understand AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4 and how each Assessment Objective is demonstrated within a GCSE Photography project.
- Recognise the different types of work that contribute towards each Assessment Objective.
- Understand how successful Photography projects develop from initial ideas through to final outcomes.
- Identify the qualities associated with top-grade GCSE Photography work.
- Explore a Grade 9 Photography portfolio and see how ideas, experimentation and outcomes develop across a successful project.
- Recognise how artists and photographers can influence the development of a student's own ideas.
- Understand the importance of experimentation, refinement and development rather than moving too quickly towards a final outcome.
- Identify common mistakes made by GCSE Photography students and understand how these can limit the quality of a portfolio.
- Understand how presentation, annotation and visual evidence can help communicate the development of a project.
- Understand what is expected during the externally set exam unit, including the preparation period and final response.
